Geography

At Maynards Green we believe that all children should have access to a geography curriculum that sparks curiosity and fascination. Our aim is to equip the pupils with knowledge about diverse places, people, resources and natural and human environments both locally and globally.

Intent

  • Develop a coherent knowledge of the location of significant places across the globe.
  • Acquire an understanding of the key physical and human geographical features of the world.
  • Collect, analyse and communicate with a range of data gathered through fieldwork.
  • Develop an understanding of how to interpret a range of sources of geographical information.
  • Develop a range of skills to communicate geographical information, such as maps.

Implementation

We will achieve this through:

  • The use of carefully selected sources and books.
  • Giving opportunities to learn about locational and place knowledge.
  • Using the local area and further afield to investigate the manmade and natural world by first-hand experience.
  • Providing good quality and up-to–date key resources such as maps, atlases, globes and other online or electronic resources to enable the pupils to have an in-depth locational and place knowledge.
  • Planning opportunities across Key stages for the children to practice their geographical skills and fieldwork.

Impact

  • KS1 - Evidence in books show their clear understanding of the world.
  • High expectations of the children’s skills in communicating geographical information. (especially by the end of key stage 2)
  • KS2 - Evidence in books highlighting the children’s ability to collect, analyse and communicate using a range of data.
