Sports Grant
Swimming
Being able to swim is such an important skill for children to learn. We have our own heated swimming pool which is a fantastic resource and enables us to ensure that the majority of children leave Maynards Green School at the end of Year 6 being able to swim (see data below).
The swimming timetable runs from April to September and every child in the school will enjoy swimming classes every year they attend Maynards Green. Lessons are taught by a qualified swimming teacher and, in addition, children have the opportunity to benefit from after-school fun swims and before school stamina training sessions!
The Friends of Maynards Green (PTA) also hire out the pool for fun swims at their summer fund raising events as well as organising fun events such as water zorbing.
Local Brownie, Scout and church groups hire out the pool too, so it is an excellent resource and well used by all members of the community!
We are fantastic swimmers at Maynards Green School. In fact, so good that two out of the last three years, we have won the Heathfield Area School's Swimming Gala! We are so proud of our achievements.
Currently:
- 94% of our Year 6 pupils can swim a distance of 25 metres confidently, competently and proficiently;
- 94% of our Year 6 pupils can swim front crawl with confidence and over a distance of 25 metres;
- 82% of our Year 6 pupils can confidently swim a distance of 25 metres using breast stroke;
- 90% of our Year 6 pupils can swim the back stroke over 25 metres;
- 3% of our Year 6 pupils can swim the butterfly stroke for a distance of 25 metres.
94% of our Year 6 pupils can perform a safe self-rescue from a pool and demonstrate sound knowledge as to how they would effect a safe rescue in other water-based situations.
